Mary M. Knight Students Build Connections Through Teamwork!
Our creative problem-solvers from Ms. Niles' class took on an exciting engineering challenge in our library recently! Students wondered if they could connect bendy straws together and stretch them all the way around the room - and through teamwork and perseverance, they made it happen!
It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and collaboration as students positioned themselves strategically around the library, arms raised high, carefully holding their sections of the connected straws. This hands-on activity fostered teamwork, spatial awareness, and brought joy to our young learners.
At Mary M. Knight, we celebrate these moments of curiosity and collective achievement. When our students ask "What if?" and work together to find answers, they're developing important skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Special thanks to Mrs. Henson for encouraging our students to think creatively and supporting this fun learning opportunity!

Our young astronomers in Mrs. Jewett's class have been on an exciting journey through space! After learning about planets and our solar system in their classroom, students expanded their cosmic knowledge with a special art project in the library.
Each student created their own unique canvas artwork featuring planets of their choice. It was truly inspiring to hear them thoughtfully explain which planets they selected and why. Some budding scientists even added black holes and stars to their cosmic creations!
These beautiful space-themed canvases will be coming home with students this upcoming week. We encourage families to ask your children about their artwork and what they've learned about our fascinating solar system!
At Mary M. Knight, we believe in connecting classroom learning with creative expression. Thank you to Mrs. Jewett and our library staff for providing this wonderful hands-on opportunity for our students to showcase their learning.

Mary M. Knight Students Head to SkillsUSA State Competition!
We're excited to announce that our talented SkillsUSA Club members will be representing Mary M. Knight at the SkillsUSA State Competition in Tacoma from March 27-29, 2025!
Our dedicated students have been preparing diligently to showcase their skills in various categories. The Mary M. Knight team will be competing in two events:
American Spirit: Cloey, Andiana, and Logan
Entrepreneurship: Bella, Hayden Roberts, Lexi, and Hayden Hughes
This prestigious competition provides an incredible opportunity for our students to demonstrate their technical abilities, leadership skills, and career readiness on a state level. They'll join hundreds of other talented students from across Washington in events that challenge both their technical and professional skills.
While at the competition, our students will participate in specialized contests, leadership development activities, and networking opportunities with industry professionals. The event culminates with an awards ceremony on March 29th, where we hope to celebrate their achievements!
Our SkillsUSA advisor, Mr. Garrett Johannes, has been working tirelessly to prepare our students for this opportunity. The team will depart on March 27th and return to Mary M. Knight on March 29th.
We're incredibly proud of these students for their dedication and commitment to excellence. Please join us in wishing them the best of luck as they represent our school and community at this prestigious event!
We'll be sure to share updates and photos from the competition on our social media channels. Go Owls!

Mary M. Knight School recently welcomed special guests Margaret Garrett, Regional Farm to School Coordinator from our Educational Service District, and Pamela Bish, SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator from WSU Mason & Grays Harbor Counties Extension, who brought the Farm to School program directly to our students.
The visitors prepared and served a nutritious beef stew featuring an impressive variety of locally sourced vegetables from farms right here in our community. Students enjoyed fresh carrots, green beans, onions, yellow potatoes, celery root, rutabaga, turnips, and aromatic herbs like basil, thyme, and parsleyβall grown within miles of our school.
Many of the ingredients came from neighboring farms including Colvin Ranch in Tenino, known for their sustainable grazing practices; Skokomish Valley Farms, which specializes in diverse vegetable production along the fertile Skokomish River; and Harp Acres Farm in McCleary, where a variety of seasonal produce is grown using environmentally friendly methods.
Students had the opportunity to sample this hearty, flavorful dish during their lunch period, giving them firsthand experience with fresh, local ingredients prepared in a delicious way.
"This program helps our students make the connection between local agriculture and healthy eating habits," said Principal Stoney. "It's one of many ways we're working to promote good nutrition while supporting our regional farming community."
The school extends special thanks to our dedicated food service team, whose ongoing commitment to our students' nutrition and wellbeing made this event possible. Their daily efforts ensure our students receive nutritious meals, and their support of special programs like Farm to School enriches the educational experience at Mary M. Knight.
The Farm to School initiative is part of a broader effort to introduce students to nutritious food options while teaching them about sustainable agriculture and the importance of supporting local food systems.

π Owl Spirit Soars High: MMK Celebrates Girls Basketball State Qualification!
What an incredible morning in Owl Country! Our Mary M. Knight family came together today for an energetic all-school assembly to celebrate our Lady Owls basketball team's remarkable achievement in securing their spot at the state tournament.
The energy was electric in our gymnasium as students from kindergarten through high school participated in spirited basketball-themed games and activities. From our youngest Owls attempting their best dribbling skills to our high schoolers competing in friendly challenges, the sense of community and support for our team was truly heartwarming.
Our decorated gym, proudly displaying our "Welcome to Owl Country" banner and numerous championship banners from past achievements, served as the perfect backdrop for this celebration of our current athletes' success. The Knight Owl Sports Booster Club helped make this special event possible, continuing their tradition of fostering school spirit and athletic excellence.
Looking ahead, our Lady Owls will face Willapa Valley on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Montesano. This crucial match will determine their seeding position for the state tournament. We encourage all our Owl supporters to come out and cheer on our team!
To our Lady Owls: Your dedication, teamwork, and perseverance have brought you to this moment. The entire Mary M. Knight community stands behind you as you continue your journey to state!
