While students enjoyed a well-deserved day off, the real magic was happening in the MMK kitchen! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³βœ¨

Today, Chef Kent Getzin brought his incredible expertise to our MMK Food Service team β€” and the results are going to be DELICIOUS for our students! Our team spent the day sharpening their baking skills, learning new techniques, and whipping up recipes designed especially for K-12 students.

On the menu? Pumpkin muffins, double chocolate muffins, blueberry cornbread, jalapeΓ±o cheddar cornbread, focaccia in bun, bar, and pizza form, cinnamon rolls, honey rolls, and egg frittata with homemade tomatillo salsa β€” all crafted with student taste buds and nutrition in mind!

Chef Kent specializes in creating school-friendly recipes and works with districts across Washington State, even leading presentations and trainings at ESD. Having him work hands-on with our team was an incredible opportunity β€” and it’s our students who will benefit most!

We are so proud of our hardworking Food Service team for spending their day off growing, learning, and bringing fresh, exciting flavors back to our cafeterias. Get ready, MMK students… amazing things are coming to your lunch trays! πŸ½οΈπŸŽ‰

πŸ“’ Exciting New Opportunity for MMK Juniors & Seniors! πŸ“’

Mary M. Knight School District is proud to announce the Pathway to Employment Program β€” a partnership with the Mason County Economic Development Council designed to help our students take their first confident steps into the workforce.

What is it?

This program connects work-ready juniors and seniors with local employers in our community. Students who complete the certification earn a Pathway to Employment Card that demonstrates they've been verified by their instructors as:

βœ“ Dependable and punctual
βœ“ Strong communicators
βœ“ Team players and leaders
βœ“ Academically prepared
βœ“ Professional and ready to work

Why does it matter?

When your student presents this card to a local business, it shows employers they're prepared for interviews and entry-level jobs. It's a competitive advantage that helps students stand out while building real-world experience before graduation.

What will students gain?

Resume-building credentials
Interview practice and confidence
Networking with local employers
Early career exploration
Professional skills that last a lifetime

Students should talk with Mr. Johannes (CTE Director) or Ms. Fisher (School Counselor) to begin the process.
Parents β€” we encourage you to talk with your student about this opportunity. It's a structured, supportive bridge between education and employment that helps prepare them for life after high school while strengthening our local community.

πŸ’Ό Together, we're building pathways to success for our students and our community!

For more information, visit the Mary M. Knight website under the CTE tab or contact Garrett Johannes at gjohannes@mmk.wednet.edu

We were excited to welcome Representative Emily Randall to our classrooms, including our CTE programs, during her visit! She showed great interest in our electric school buses, toured our bus garage, and even took a ride on one of our electric buses (all smiles!). We truly appreciate her time, enthusiasm, and interest in visiting the Mary M. Knight School District.

Today our students enjoyed a meal made with fresh ingredients from start to finish. We served sweet corn on the cobβ€”shucked and cooked to perfectionβ€”alongside homemade beef patties, crispy fries, and our fresh salad bar.

One of the best parts? Students loved comparing their burgers and noticing that no two patties looked the sameβ€”handmade work at its finest! πŸ‘

Yesterday for lunch, we tried something newβ€”Teriyaki Chicken Nachos topped with homemade coleslaw! πŸ˜‹ Everyone seemed to enjoy them, but we learned one important lesson: if you didn’t eat them fast enough, the sauce made the chips a little soggy. Lesson learned! Next time, we’re hoping to try them with wontons to see if that helps.

This morning for breakfast, we busted out the muffin tins and made our Blueberry & Raspberry bars in muffin form πŸ«πŸ“. The verdict? Everyone loved the look of muffins compared to bars!

We love experimenting with different cooking methods and recipe variationsβ€”and we’re hoping the students are loving it just as much as we are! πŸ’™πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³
