π’ Exciting New Opportunity for MMK Juniors & Seniors! π’
Mary M. Knight School District is proud to announce the Pathway to Employment Program β a partnership with the Mason County Economic Development Council designed to help our students take their first confident steps into the workforce.
What is it?
This program connects work-ready juniors and seniors with local employers in our community. Students who complete the certification earn a Pathway to Employment Card that demonstrates they've been verified by their instructors as:
β Dependable and punctual
β Strong communicators
β Team players and leaders
β Academically prepared
β Professional and ready to work
Why does it matter?
When your student presents this card to a local business, it shows employers they're prepared for interviews and entry-level jobs. It's a competitive advantage that helps students stand out while building real-world experience before graduation.
What will students gain?
Resume-building credentials
Interview practice and confidence
Networking with local employers
Early career exploration
Professional skills that last a lifetime
Students should talk with Mr. Johannes (CTE Director) or Ms. Fisher (School Counselor) to begin the process.
Parents β we encourage you to talk with your student about this opportunity. It's a structured, supportive bridge between education and employment that helps prepare them for life after high school while strengthening our local community.
πΌ Together, we're building pathways to success for our students and our community!
For more information, visit the Mary M. Knight website under the CTE tab or contact Garrett Johannes at gjohannes@mmk.wednet.edu

Today our students enjoyed a meal made with fresh ingredients from start to finish. We served sweet corn on the cobβshucked and cooked to perfectionβalongside homemade beef patties, crispy fries, and our fresh salad bar.
One of the best parts? Students loved comparing their burgers and noticing that no two patties looked the sameβhandmade work at its finest! π
We truly love being able to provide fresh, nutritious meals that our students enjoy and appreciate. π

This morning for breakfast, we busted out the muffin tins and made our Blueberry & Raspberry bars in muffin form π«π. The verdict? Everyone loved the look of muffins compared to bars!
We love experimenting with different cooking methods and recipe variationsβand weβre hoping the students are loving it just as much as we are! ππ©βπ³π¨βπ³

Kachumber salad comes from India, and the name Kachumbari is Swahili. This fresh, chopped salad has been enjoyed for generations and highlights bright, simple flavors. We loved sharing this colorful and crunchy dish as part of our FFVP snack!
π Find the recipe here: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/nu/he/documents/kachumbersalad.pdf
π₯ This delicious salad is made with arugula, cucumber, cherry tomato, red onion, mint, lemon juice, and a little salt & pepperβan excellent example of the FFVP philosophy in action: fresh, colorful, and nutritious!

School will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
School will also be closed on Friday, January 23, 2026, for a Professional Development Day.

Swim lessons for grades Kβ3 will take place Tuesday, January 13 through Friday, January 16.
Students will need a swimsuit, towel, and a bag to place wet items in after lessons.
We will depart the school at 11:45 a.m. and return around 2:45 p.m. Students will receive lunch before leaving for swim lessons.
You may also want to pack a small snack for the ride home, as swimming can make us extra hungry!

Recipes. Lots and lots of recipes.
The MMK kitchen has been busy turning those delicious dreams into reality! This weekβs kitchen experiments (the good kind!) included a banana baked oatmeal bar, a Rice Krispie berry lemon cake bar (pictured on the right), pizza pockets (pictured on the left), and classic pizza (pictured in the middle).
All this mixing, baking, and taste-testing is part of our mission to bring more tasty, homemade entrΓ©e options to our students. Sure, not every experiment is a winnerβbut the successes have been really good, and the creativity never stops.
Keep your eyes (and appetites) openβnew menu items are sneaking onto the menu later this month! πππ
