Swim Lesson Reminder πββοΈ (Grades Kβ3)
Swim lessons for grades Kβ3 will take place Tuesday, January 13 through Friday, January 16.
Students will need a swimsuit, towel, and a bag to place wet items in after lessons.
We will depart the school at 11:45 a.m. and return around 2:45 p.m. Students will receive lunch before leaving for swim lessons.
You may also want to pack a small snack for the ride home, as swimming can make us extra hungry!

Do you ever wonder what food service workers dream about at night? π€π
Recipes. Lots and lots of recipes.
The MMK kitchen has been busy turning those delicious dreams into reality! This weekβs kitchen experiments (the good kind!) included a banana baked oatmeal bar, a Rice Krispie berry lemon cake bar (pictured on the right), pizza pockets (pictured on the left), and classic pizza (pictured in the middle).
All this mixing, baking, and taste-testing is part of our mission to bring more tasty, homemade entrΓ©e options to our students. Sure, not every experiment is a winnerβbut the successes have been really good, and the creativity never stops.
Keep your eyes (and appetites) openβnew menu items are sneaking onto the menu later this month! πππ

π¬ Real-World Learning in Action!
These photos show Regan opening a package she received from Weber State University π¦π±βπ«
In Mr. Johannesβ class, students completed an assignment where they wrote and mailed professional letters to colleges of their choice, requesting information, materials, and resources. This activity is part of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and helps students practice real-world communication skills while exploring postsecondary and career options.
Seeing colleges respond makes the process real and exciting for students β and shows how initiative and professionalism pay off.
Great work, Regan! π

Dear Families,
We are writing to inform you of transportation disruptions affecting our school today due to localized flooding and storm damage in our area.
As a result of current road conditions, our transportation department is unable to access all regular bus routes. The River Haven neighborhood will be serviced by our designated flood routes throughout the entire day. Additionally, buses on other routes may experience significant delays as drivers navigate alternate paths and road closures.
We appreciate your patience and flexibility during these challenging conditions. The safety of our students remains our top priority, and we will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day.
Thank you for your understanding.

π International Food Day at MMK! π
Today we served gyro beef bowls, giving students a taste of global cuisine! The bowls featured seasoned beef served over rice and spinach, with the option to top it off with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. On the side, students enjoyed hummus and tzatziki sauce, adding even more flavor to the meal.
Gyros have their roots in Greece, where they are traditionally made with meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie and served in pita bread with fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki. Over time, the flavors of gyros have been enjoyed around the world, and todayβs bowl-style version was a delicious way to celebrate that rich cultural background.
π¬ A sweet bonus today! π¬
A special treat was also served β house-made candied cranberries, completely prepared in our kitchen. Candied cranberries balance sweet and tart flavors. They were a wonderful dessert and the perfect ending to a great meal!
It was a fantastic International Food Day, and we loved sharing both culture and flavor with our students!

MMK Hosts Visit from Representative Travis Couture of the 35th Legislative District
Mary M. Knight School District was proud to welcome Representative Travis Couture of the 35th Legislative District to our campus.
During his visit, Representative Couture toured the school and spent time learning about our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Outside of his legislative work, Rep. Couture owns and operates a custom cabinet shop in Shelton, giving him firsthand experience in the skilled trades.
Representative Couture met with our MMK Construction class to share his professional background and discuss career pathways and opportunities available to students interested in pursuing careers in the trades. His insights provided valuable real-world perspective and inspiration for our students.
Thank you, Representative Couture, for taking the time to visit Mary M. Knight and for sharing your experience with our students.
