Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
This afternoon (9/26/24), one of our bus drivers reported that students mentioned a fellow MMK student had made threatening comments on the bus, suggesting there would be a school shooting at Mary M. Knight.
Upon receiving this report, we immediately contacted the student's family and met with both the family and the student this evening. Based on our interview and discussion with them, we do not believe this to be a credible threat.
To provide more context, there was a classroom discussion earlier about school safety, including emergency procedures for fire drills and steps to take during an "active shooter" drill. It seems the conversation from the classroom continued onto the bus ride home.
We take the safety and security of our students with the utmost seriousness. We understand there has been significant activity on social media regarding this concern, and we want to inform you of the results of our preliminary investigation.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Mr. Stoney, or Ms. Bell.
Sincerely,
Matt Mallery

PTO fundraisers are vital for enriching our school community and enhancing students' educational experiences. The funds raised support essential programs such as the OWL store, which teaches students budgeting skills, and scholarships that enable participation in extracurricular activities.
We also offer mini art classes to foster creativity, organize field day events for teamwork and physical activity, and fund exciting field trips that bring learning to life. Additionally, these funds help provide teachers with necessary supplies and resources, benefiting students directly.
By participating in these fundraisers, families can make a meaningful impact while enjoying great products. With 50% of each purchase going directly to our initiatives, itβs a wonderful way to support our collective goal of creating a vibrant learning environment. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our students and the entire school community!
